Ministry Summary from the January 29 Voters’ Meeting

Treasurer’s Report: The congregational Christmas Blessing gift at the end of December helped place some much-needed funds into our general fund for facilities repairs and improvements as well as for community outreach events here at Holy Cross and  outreach projects off-site  in our community.  Income is keeping up with expenses, but we need to encourage good stewardship and giving freely back to the Lord of our gifts of time, talents and treasures so His ministry can grow.

Ministry to Members:  Care Ministry’s Servant of the Day  Love Meals and  Shut-ins Care Ministry served our members on many occasions this year.  We have an active group of prayer warriors in our Care Ministry People of Prayer.  The GEMS actively participate in greeting card ministry and gifts to shut-ins as well as monthly activities during the year for  those 60 years and over. “Spiritual Gifts” classes are held a couple times a year to help our members determine what gifts God has given them to use in ministry to others in Jesus’ name. Our recreation team provided several monthly activities such as hiking, camp-outs, game nights and intergenerational family activities.

Ministry to Non-Members: Outreach to our Children’s Center from Holy Cross families during the Summer Family Bonfire and BBQ, our first annual October Trunk or Treat and upcoming Easter Fair.  Community Outreach events held during the  year include San Jose Family Shelter Kids to Camp, upcoming Holy Cross help with the move to the new Family Shelter facility, Sock Drive for the homeless, Art supplies to the Hope Senior Center.  The N.O.W. program in December served 80 needy families from our Children’s Center, the San Jose Veterans Center, Friends Outside and the COME program with gifts and boxes of  food.  Holy Cross hosted Respite Events for Families with Disabled Children twice a year. Holy Cross will again provide a child care area and a prayer table at the San Jose Veterans and their Families Resource Fair at the county fairgrounds. In April.  Our nursing home ministry visits neighboring nursing homes every week each month to bring the Good News to those who are shut-ins in our community. Short-term Mission trips to Vietnam  and the Czech Republic last year

Ministry to Children and Youth:   Very successful Vacation Bible School last summer—always need more helpers for VBS activities!; Upcoming Family Easter Fair on April 7 at Holy Cross  for Holy Cross and Children’s Center families; Trunk or Treat had almost 150 people attend;  Summer Family Bonfire & BBQ; High school youth getting ready with fundraisers to help pay for  their upcoming mission trip this summer to Alaska; Junior highers went to Mt Cross camp in Feb; Good News Club and Sunday School are starting to grow. We praise God for our dedicated Sunday School teachers  and Good News Club teachers and aides.

Children’s Center: Starting to save up funds for another van and to replace the cabinets in the Good News building.  150 children are currently enrolled in our Children’s Center day care program.  Many thanks to the outstanding staff who help lead these little ones to Jesus each day.

Trustees:  This past  fall several trustees worked with contractors to modify the layout of the pews, music area of the sanctuary. Discussed the carpenter ants problem which is causing  wood destruction in the New Life Building.  After the carpenter ant damage is repaired we will focus on refreshing the  New Life building restrooms, refreshing the cry room,  consider new signage on the front lawn driveway area, complete the sound system improvements in the sanctuary, patch the broken aggregate concrete in the gazebo.  The landscaping project in the prayer garden is completed—the next area to be re-landscaped is the front of the Good News building planter area.

Elders: Oversaw the layout change of the sanctuary along with the music leaders and the council to engage the congregation more in worship and praise especially at the contemporary services and to facilitate the direction of the various music groups when all are performing at the same service. Chancel choir needs more singers or it may not be able to continue. . Elders are trying to find a way to connect with non-active members.
