Disability Respite Event September 30th

HOLY CROSS RESPITE EVENT

Next: September 30, 9am-12:30pm

Frequently asked Questions

What are respite events? Holy Cross offers 3.5 hours of fun for children affected by disability and siblings, ages 1 to 12 (developmentally) allowing parents a few hours of quiet and refreshment.

Parents: Take a break, get away, do some shopping, and breathe.

Children:  Games, crafts, fun, music, snacks, and more.

What is the cost? Respite events are free to the families.

What is the need? These parents tend to be stressed, tired, and isolated. 85% of their marriages end in divorce. Many are single parents. Only 12-15% of families with disabilities have found a church that welcomes them or have heard God’s perspective on disability.

Who looks after the children?  All activities are led by trained staff and volunteers.  Each child has a “buddy” to look after them and play with them during the respite event.  On-site nurse is available.

Can I volunteer to help?  We need volunteers to be a “buddy” with a child with a disability or a typical sibling.  If you are not a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, please contact Art Larson.  A short training time is provided prior to each respite event.

What are the dates and times? September 30, 2017, 9:00am to 12:30pm. (Pre-registration required one week before the respite event.)
